Cash Drawer (USB) Windows 10

This guide will walk you through the setup of a USB cash drawer which is not connected to a thermal printer. 

Setup Cash Drawer

Notice

You can not use USB cash drawer with a USB Thermal printer. If you use a printer, then you must connect the cash drawer directly to the printer.

Next, Download Drivers and Instructions for computers that do not automatically detect your USB Cash Drawer

 

  • Find Ports (COM & LPT) and locate the COM Port associated with the new cash drawer. (tip you can unplug and plug the usb cash drawer with the device manger open and you should see it pop up). In this example it is called USB Serial Device (COM3). The COM port number is what you need for the next step.

Plug in the USB Cash Drawer and open up the Device Manager on you

  • Click “Add a printer or scanner

  • Click “The printer that I want isn’t listed

  • Select “Add a local printer or network printer with manual setup“.

  • Select “Generic

  • Select “Generic / Text Only

  • Click Next

  • Name the printer “cashdrawer” all one word with no spaces, no capital letters. Double check the spelling this is important for this to work correctly. 

  • Click Next

  • Select “Do not share the printer

  • Click “Next

Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs.

  • You should now see a new printer titled “cashdrawer

  • Download and install the latest version of JAVA
  • Download and install the QZtray
  • Click “System Settings

  • Click “Users

  • It will default to “Staff

  • Click “Edit” for the user / users you are setting up the cash drawer for. 

  • Click “User Settings

  • Under Cash Drawer select “Standalone Cash drawer (attached to PC directly via USB)

  • For Printer Name enter in the exact name that was set when setting up the printer “cashdrawer” no spaces, no capital letters.

To test, you can go into Store, open up the “Sales” page and click “Open Cash Drawer
